ABOUT CANCHA...

CANCHA was founded in early 2024, so it's still pretty early days for us, and we are still what you would call a 'micro start up', and very much an 'independant small business'.

CANCHA was born out of my need to initially get hold of 'fresh' mojo, which tasted like the mojo I was familiar with from time spent in Gran Canaria as a child.

What I soon discovered however, was that whilst mojos are available to buy in the UK, they tend to be 'long life, ambient ' products and in reality they didn't taste much like the real thing to me - So, I decided to make my own mojo at home, developing and tweaking my recipes until I was satisfied that my mojo was as close as it could be, to the flavours I had craved and been searching for.

I started to give this mojo to friends and family as gifts, and to my delight, and some surprise, they loved it too, and soon demand had outstripped supply and I had a small army of mojo fans ready to get their hands on more and more mojo.

I decided to 'go for it' and started taking CANCHA mojos to Farmers markets around Cardiff, and so far, the response been incredible.

I am always amazed at just how open to new flavours and styles of cuisine people are today...I'll never forget my mother telling me how when she first came to Wales in the early 70's, she couldn't even get hold of fresh garlic, paprika or chillies... And yet nowadays, we are surrounded with more food choice than is probably good for us.

CANCHA has provided me with a tangible link back to the Canary Islands, the culture, history and of course the food are all hugely important parts of my identity, and when you compare the Welsh traits of warmth, resilience, and rich cultural pride - A love of music and nature and a touch of that underdog spirit - you could just as well be describing the peoples of the Canary Islands too.

Good food brings good people together - ALWAYS.

Buen Provecho - Iechyd Da - Cheers
